STANDARD FEATURES ADVANTAGES
Compact Dependable Automated Assemblies Actuator Bracket couplings are eliminated resulting in a lower profile and reliable automated assembly.
In-Service Adjustable Stem Packing The large oversized packing nut, "Mc-Nut" is drilled on each flat. This allows the use of a standard allen wrench to make stem packing nut adjustments while the valve is in service and without removal of the actuator, patent # 6,446,935 B1.
Live Loaded Multiple Packing Stem Seal System The stem seal system uses a combination of an internal thrust washer, an internal stem seal made from Peek, and Nova, two large Nova upper stem seals, and four Belleville spring washers to insure high cycle leak free service.
Heavy Duty Large Diameter Stem The heavy duty stem is larger than comparable valves, which insures extended service life, less down time and overall lower cost.
Integral ISO Mounting Pads The cast mounting pad is precision machined to ISO standards and will allow for actuation variations depending on application requirements.
Seats Nova seats are made using a Teflon base filled with glass, amorphous carbon powder and graphite. It has better thermal properties than PTFE and is ideal for steam or thermal fluid applications up to 500ºF. Also available PTFE/TFM® seats for up to 450ºF.
Steam Rated TFM® seats are designed to handle 150lb. steam. Nova seats are designed specifically to handle steam, and they are rated to 250 lb. steam. The Sharpe® Dir-Act® Valve used for steam may be automated with a pneumatic actuator prepared for high temperature operation. A pneumatic actuator specially prepared for operation at 350ºF may be used on a 100 psi steam line under all conditions of installation. Steam pressures up to 150 psi may be controlled if care is taken in installation of the high temperature actuator. This would include the direct mounting of the actuator to the valve body but with the addition of some heat shielding or insulation between the actuator and the steam line and valve body. The stem nut should be left uncovered so it is accessible for adjustment. The actuator should remain uncovered so that excess heat can be dissipated.
Recessed Seats Seats are recessed in a machined seat socket in the valve body, removing them from the media flow path and supporting the seats, thus minimizing seat erosion or seat cold flow.
Fully Encapsulated Body Seal Teflon fully encapsulated body seal is standard. The seal is in its own independent gland and upon assembly becomes totally encapsulated.
Vented Ball Drilled stem slot insures the ball cavity is vented to the process stream. This prevents cavity over-pressurization especially in steam service.
Full Port Design 2000 WOG The full port design insures full flow and minimal cavitation or pressure drop in critical applications. The valve carries a pressure rating of 2000 WOG.
Two Piece Body Design 1/4" - 2" The two piece body design provides a stable compact valve platform.
Option - Manual Regular lever handle is available, also oval handle that extends 2-1/4" high.

STEM PACKING ADJUSTMENT PROCEDURE

Dir-Act Valve
The stem nut can be tightened to compress the stem packing without removing any actuation devices. Under normal operation, this adjustment should not be required frequently because of the live loading of the stem packing by Belleville springs between the stem nut and the metal Gland Packing ring.

Tightening the stem nut is easiest with the valve in the closed position. The stem must be held in position while stem nut adjustments are made. This can be done by holding the handle or putting a wrench on the stem flats, or using the actuator to position the valve.

There are holes drilled in the sides of the stem nut. The stem nut adjustment tool (allen key) is inserted fully into one of the holes visible in the open corner of the actuator mounting pad and the nut is turned a quarter turn clockwise (as viewed from above). If this is not sufficient, make a second adjustment of a quarter turn.

If the nut appears loose, then the Belleville springs are not compressed. Turn the stem nut until it feels snug (not tight - this could invert the Belleville springs and decrease the spring travel). When the stem nut feels snug, back it off a half turn (counter-clockwise).
